Set yourself up for SUCCESS

Are you creating the best environment for your success? Everyone is different in how they approach a task and how they might complete it, but only YOU know what it takes for YOU to complete a certain task, or at least what will make you more likely to complete it.

Ask yourself:
What has worked for me in the past?
What might get in my way?
What kinds of things can I put in place to help keep me accountable?
How will I feel when I complete this task?

By asking such questions, we can set ourselves up for success. This goes for simple things like straightening up the house or answering some emails, to big projects like applying for a new job or planning a big event. An ongoing “struggle” I’ve had is with consistent exercise. From past experiences, I know that I am much more likely to exercise when I lay out my workout clothes the night before—it’s a simple visual cue, but it works. I know I’m more likely to get laundry done or straighten up my house (and be in a good mood while doing it) if I turn on some fun music. I know that when I have a bigger task, like doing my taxes or writing this post, 🙂 I’m more likely to be successful when I break it down into pieces and set some little goals along the way.

I am a fan of Gretchen Rubin’s book, The Four Tendencies, that talks about whether a person is more likely an Upholder, Questioner, Obliger, or Rebel when it comes to getting things done.  I highly recommend this online quiz followed up with some reading about your own personal tendency to better understand how to set yourself up for success.

With a dose of forethought and clarity, we can achieve even the most daunting of tasks.

Keep in touch and let me know what works for you.
